No Longer, No Yet Exhibition at Art League Houston
No Longer, Not Yet arises from a year and a half of sustained volunteer work at a Houston-area shelter serving migrant women and children, and is grounded in lived experience, shared making, and acts of care.
Central to the exhibition’s physical presence is a cycle of renewal and material exchange: much of the material used in these works was sourced directly from the thirty beds within the shelter. These essential components were then replaced with new materials provided by a collective of Latina women, embedding a foundational layer of community support and reciprocity into the fabric of the art.
As news cycles around immigration continue to speed up and flatten into headlines, Valencia resists the pressure to resolve or frame the subject through policy or argument. Instead, she lingers with the stories shared throughout her time volunteering at the shelter and what it means to move through uncertainty, highlighting the slower, quieter realities of endurance, adaptation, and care that rarely make it into public discourse.
