MARISOL VALENCIA
BIOGRAPHY
Originally from Guadalajara, México, Marisol Valencia is a visual artist currently based in Houston, Texas. Working through sculpture and installation, her work explores the fragility of memory and the way identity is reshaped through experiences that alter what we perceive as stable. Everyday materials take in new possibilities; porcelain and fibers coexist with processes in which fire, time, and personal histories leave their traces. The tension between fragility and resilience allows Valencia to approach identity not as something fixed, but as a continuous process of adaptation, loss, and reconstruction.
Her recent practice has expanded to include collective processes of making center on migration, displacement, and the search for belonging. She is constantly exploring ways to expand the perceptions of everyday objects. Her work seeks to capture her desire to find meaning and beauty in the everyday, in abandoned objects, in things that have lost their purpose or should not have happened, that are overlooked or disregarded.
She studied Art Conservation and Restoration at ECRO in Guadalajara. After earning a Certificate of Achievement in ceramics from The Glassell School of Art, MFAH, in 2015, Marisol completed Glassell’s two-year BLOCK Program in 2022. In spring of 2024 she was selected to participated at PAC Art Residency in Houston. She was part of STELLO Portland residency in 2026.
Her Work has been included in multiple shows, including at the Holocaust Museum of Houston, The Consulate General of Mexico, Anya Tish Gallery, Glassell’s Levant Gallery, MFAH and STELLO gallery in Portland.
